Our Vision

We envision a region significantly free of litter. People no longer litter.  They dispose of it properly.  A region where there is an abundance of beautiful flowers and trees that are visible throughout the region.  Waterways are clean and our ecosystems are healthy and thriving!

We Need Your Support To Eliminate Litter In Your Community

Clean and Beautiful Cleveland planters along kinsman

Our Litter cleanup and Beautification in the Mt. Pleasant area has made an impact in the community.

Our goal was to plant flowers and put mulch in the planters from East 154th and Kinsman down to 130th st. There were over 160 planters along the targeted area.

WE ACCOMPLISHED OUR GOAL.

Through continued efforts and resources, The Clean and Beautiful Cleveland-Block2Block Team was able to address all the planters in the area and help beautify this neighborhood.

To sustain the efforts, we are reaching out to the community leaders, home/business owners and everyone in the neighborhood to help preserve the work that was done.

You can get involved.

WE ARE STILL IN THE MOUNT PLEASANT AREA TO MAKE A DIFFERANCE

Nancy and Pam constantly get involved with the daycares and community events to teach the importance and benefit of having a litter free environment. During a summer camp at 137th and Kinsman, they worked with kids to introduce the practice of not littering and why. They all made posting that reflect how they feel about littering.

Once key facet of our approach is to reach the youth and teach them the importance of living in a litter free environment.

THANK YOU

to everyone that shared some of your time and energy with us.

Special thanks to New Sardis Primitive Baptist Church, Pastor-Elect Rev. Dr. Vincent E Stokes, II for allowing us to use the facility and parking lot all day during the June 3rd planting event.

These are a few photos of the day from our planting day on Kinsman.

The work continues

The work in our city is not done. We still need sponsors, donors and volunteers to make this a citywide neighborhood success.

Our clean up day was a huge success. Even with the rainy weather our team was in place and ready to go.

We want to extend a special thank you to our sponsors who donated to support this project.

We could not have done it with out you!

We were able to pick up litter from East 154th and Kinsman down to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

It was a community project and 60 volunteers came from all over to help and participate.

Thank you to everyone who supported that may not be listed.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE?

Launch a unified region-wide litter reduction and beautification initiative led by key stakeholders who create a united anti-litter campaign that changes people’s behavior such that people stop littering and communities plant numerous trees and flowers throughout the region.  In order to support this effort, we plan to start by implementing litter reduction and beautification courses in each Cleveland Metropolitan School District school to engage, inspire and empower our young students to care for the environment and foster pride for decades to come

  • We were awarded a Neighbor Up Action Grant of $3,500.00 to clean up and beautify a section of Mount Pleasant from 154th and Kinsman to the intersection of Kinsman and Martin Luther King Blvd!

  • We won $2000 for first place in the Quality of Life category competing in Citizens Make Change Accelerate 2023.

CHANGING LITTER HABITS START WITH EDUCATION

We taught a five week litter reduction and beautification course at Rainey Institute’s summer program this past summer. It was a part of their newly implemented civics component called, Civic Circles, to engage students actively in community issues. We utilized a project-based learning model.

The students were given a problem, and were asked to come up with a solution.

They were required to implement their solution, and present it at the end of the five weeks before the full camp.

Students cleaned up a litter around Rainey, planted perennials, signed individual pledges not to litter, created and signed a group pledge banner, pledging not to litter and made and posted anti-littering signs.

We also want to initiate Litter Reduction and Beautification classes for students in Cleveland Metropolitan Schools to inspire, empower, motivate, and create a generation of students who will protect and beautify our environment!

We are piloting Litter Reduction and Beautification Course for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at A.J. Rickoff Elementary School in Cleveland Metropolitan School District during May 2023.

We are working with UnionMiles CDC to teach an educational piece to youth about the impact of litter in the community.
